And, as per her first book, there was another cliff hanger at the end of this one that had me scrambling yet again to another Wi-fi area to download book 3, Opal. I guess that made an impact of the intensity of the novel as well. She was hardly in it and she is just the sweetest thing.weird thing to say I know, but she was so nice and fun in Obsidian that I missed her spunk in the second. And finally, if we take in the rest of his words and deeds, we find him claiming at the Last Supper that the cup is the New Covenant in his blood (Luke 22:20). ![]() If we include the parables of judgement, we find him saying that the final constitution of the kingdom rests entirely on relationship with him - and on that relationship as operative in the mystery of his catholic presence in all human beings (the parable of the Great Judgement, Matt. ![]() If we toss in the parables of grace as well, we find the mystery of the kingdom more and more closely identified with Jesus himself (the parable of the Watchful Servants in Luke 12:35-48). Even if we do no more than confine ourselves to chapter 13 of Matthew, its string of shortish parables of the kingdom develops mightily the mysterious themes sketched in the Sower. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Several chapters can be summed up this way: 1. In this book, pastor Francis Chan attempts to "reverse our tragic neglect of the Holy Spirit", the third of the trinity he has named "the forgotten God." Unfortunately, he spends more of his time apologizing for his beliefs about the Holy Spirit and asking the reader if she has the courage to change her beliefs about the Holy Spirit. ![]() And don't just read it, allow the truths Mr Chan exposes transform you. I also love how he goes into detail how important the Holy Spirit is in our lives.how do we grieve the holy spirit? Why did Christ say it was better that he die so that the Holy Spirit could come? Are we treating the Holy Spirit like he is even better than having Christ here in the flesh? There are so many gems in this book. He gives to the point that he draws criticism from others who say, "you've given enough, shouldn't you be thinking about yourself now? Shouldn't you be concerned about your future? Don't you think you should have save up for an emergency?" I love his answer: What part about children being kidnapped and then raped repeatedly every single day of their life is NOT an emergency? Really changes your perspective. One of my favorite parts is where the author is explaining how he is giving sacrificially to the ministry he is so passionate about, which is human trafficking. This is one of those books that changes you forever. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the UK’s best-loved authors and storytellers, Michael was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2003, a post he helped to set up with Ted Hughes in 1999. ![]() Michael Morpurgo, began writing stories in the early '70's, in response to the children in his class at the primary school where he taught in Kent.
![]() ![]() ![]() Not every thirteen-year-old girl is accused of murder, brought to trial, and found guilty. And, of all of the genre-bending plot elements here, perhaps none is as enthralling as seeing a young teen girl take on a traditionally male role in the gender-divided 19th century, not by hiding who she is and pretending to be a boy, but by becoming her true self out of conviction and determination. The characters, major and minor, are complex and unpredictable. It combines an exciting story with thought-provoking consideration of issues, such as bigotry, honor, justice, and the necessity of letting beliefs dictate actions. As an action-packed, edge-of-the-seat adventure, it should be appealing even to reluctant readers. The story is satisfying for several reasons. From that promising beginning, the author sweeps us into a breathtaking and suspenseful adventure at sea. See From the Book below for that warning. Instead of an Introduction or Author's Note before the first chapter, CHARLOTTE DOYLE begins with An Important Warning. And it’s pretty clearly written with a professional audience in mind. “The Body Keeps the Score,” it is a searing read about the way trauma disconnects our minds and our bodies. It’s number one, as I write this, the book’s 147th week on the paperback nonfiction list - 147th. “The Body Keeps the Score,” which is a book about trauma from 2014, was back up near the top of the New York Times list. But how could anyone? After a bit I got used to his voice(s) and overall I found the audio version of this amazing story well worth the listen. The narrator certainly did not sound like what I had imagined the characters sounding like. How would a narrator interpret the characters I knew so well after reading this story 40 times or more over six decades? I practically know the dialogue by heart. ![]() When I saw the audio version available for the first time I was filled with excitement and a bit of trepidation. I've continued to re read it every year or two since and it never loses its ability to thrill me. I first read the Stars My Destination in 1957 at the age of 7 and was thunderstruck even at that young age. A Science Fiction classic by anyone's standards!
